About the VCLA
The VCLA is an independent research organization, established on a non-profit basis to promote research and public understanding of Late Antiquity – the period from about 200 to 700 CE.
Its thematic and geographical range is wide – covering the political, economic, social, cultural and religious history, including the textual and material culture, of:
- the territories and former territories of the Roman and Persian empires;
- the regions and peoples of Europe, Africa and Asia with which the citizens or subjects of those empires interacted, either directly or at a remove.
As a private company limited by guarantee without shareholding, registered in Wales, UK, the company has statutory Members. In accordance with the Companies Act 2006, Members delegate most matters of governance to a Board of Directors, which in turn has both executive and non-executive directors. In addition, the Board can appoint committees. The VCLA is currently in the process of appointing an Academic Advisory Committee with an international participation.
This page, and links from it, will be updated in coming weeks as current governance and committee updates are finalized.
